The Mustangs split their last two non-district games dropping a 71-53 decision at Big Spring before coming home for a 57-30 win over Ft. Stockton at the Dag. After taking a slim 39-37 lead into halftime against the Steers in Big Spring, the Mustangs suddenly went cold in the second half by coming up with 14 total points, seven in each quarter. Meanwhile, Big Spring came up with 14 and 20 points in the third and fourth quarters that led to the lopsided win. Josh Mills paced the Mustangs with 14 points that included 10 in the first half of play. Nick Rodriquez added nine points, Daron Pacheco netted eight points, Branden Lewis and Nathaniel Crus both chipped in six points, Jaxon Maxwell added five, and Miguel Dominquez finished with one point.

In the Ft. Stockton game the Mustangs jumped out to a 17-6 first quarter lead and never looked back. They upped that 11-point lead to 32-10 at intermission and then went into the final quarter on top 45-19 cushion. Nathaniel Cruz and Josh Mills were both in double digits with 12 and 10 points respectively. Nick Rodriquez and Elias Yanez each tossed in eight points in a balanced scoring attack. Also adding points to the final total was Jaxon Maxwell with seven points, Daron Pacheco and Brenevyn Diaz both added five points, while Miguel Dominquez and Branden Lewis both added one point to finish out the scoring that saw everyone score.

The Mustangs will kick off district play and join the Fillies tomorrow night, Tuesday, Dec. 18th when they will host the #10 Shallowater Mustangs. Both teams will tipoff at a 4-4 record and needless to say that DC will have their hands full. Coach Garcia will need to play their game against them because Shallowater can easily get ahead quickly and score a lot.

The Fillies are 2-0 in district play with a 57-23 win over Roosevelt and a 46-14 win over Brownfield and Fillie standout Holly Hemmeline had 22 of those points. The Fillies have outscored both district opponents 103-37 but will face #9 Shallowater who is always a force to be reckoned with. Holly and Co. will need all their shots to go in.

You can hear the game live on towntalkradio.com or the Mustangs Sports Radio app. Girls tipoff time is 6:30 PM with the boys following.
