In a special held meeting on Monday night, August 29, the Denver City ISD unanimously approved the Ordinance to set the Tax Rate for both M&O as well as I&S.

After discussing these new rates  the board set the M&O rate at $1.04 and the I&S rate at .2133 for a total tax rate of $1.2533 which is the same exact rate it was last year. In spite of the taxable values going down by more than 35% the board was able to leave the tax rate the same.

Business Manager Shannon Bressler noted the tax value for 2016 came in at $1,233,197,343. This is considerably lower than the values of 2015 which were $1,982,311,740. And the biggest drop occurred from 2014 which had a property value of $3,810,865,428.

DCISD is the only county entity that did not have a tax rate increase. The County rate shot up to $1.05 and although the city of Denver City has not set their final rate that rate is also expected to have a significant increase.

In other items brought before the board they unanimously approved issuing a school district teaching permit to Athletic Trainer Courtney Pye so she may teach athletic training classes at the high school. Pye is in her second year as the athletic trainer for all Denver City sports.

The board also unanimously approved a bid from Mustang Country for the purchase of 1 Ton pickup for the district. The window price of the diesel vehicle was $41,988 but after a trade in the final cost will be $29,500.

Also on the agenda was the Termination of Ninfa Garcia and the Resignations of Estella Hernandez, and Juani Gutierrez, all three from the Yoakum County Family Literacy Center. Once again the board unanimously approved these motions.

The board also unanimously approved the hiring of Lorenza Montanez as a custodian at Kelley Elementary, Monica McCormick teaching Life Skills with FCSSA in Seagraves, and Pat Curtis teaching GED classes at the Family Literacy Center.

Being no further items on the agenda the board adjourned.

Board members present were Russell Dial, Johnette Mansur, Joey Rodgers, Brian Sutton, Robbie Underhill and board president Brad Woosley.
