Plains ISD partners with PICK Education

by admin

TownTalk Radio received the following Press Release from Dr. Stephanie Howard, Plains ISD Superintendent.

Plains ISD is excited to announce our involvement in PICK Education. Pick Education is created to bring school to life for students, and connect them to real world problems beyond their classroom walls. Jason Osborne, leading the program with Ector County ISD, is the co-founder and president of the internationally recognized non-profit organization Paleo Quest. Mr. Osborne’s work in science, engineering, communication, and education has been featured in publications and media outlets like National Geographic, Discovery Channel and Scientific American to name just a few.  Plains ISD is excited to have the opportunity to partner with ECISD to make these real-life learning experiences available to our students and provide outstanding professional learning opportunities for our science teachers.

Northwest ISD in the Metroplex and Texas Tech University are other educational institutions participating in this parternship. In the fall, Plains High School had students and teachers participate in the Backyard Brains event in Odessa College, and in June 2017, Shauna Standard, one of our science teachers, will attend an Industrial Minerals course in Round Rock, TX with faculty members from these partnering districts.

PICK Education exemplifies the choice each of us makes to prioritize learning. Pick a problem to solve, pick a project to design, pick education. Plains ISD is excited about this partnership and the opportunities it can provide our students and faculty. We appreciate Mr. Tom Crowe, Superintendent of ECISD schools and Jason Osborne, Chief Innovation Officer, for including us.
