The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) pre-season rankings have been released and the top team in Class 3A girls basketball is no other than the defending State Champs the Brownfield Lady Cubs! Last season the Lady Cubs after a long regular and district seasons, took the Class 3A Playoffs by storm winning over a gauntlet of teams knocking off #6 Idalou in Area, Childress in Regional Quarter Finals (who should’ve been in the top 25), #16 Peaster in the Regional Semi-Finals, then grand of them all #1 Shallowater in the Regional Finals, and finally #4 Ponder in the State Semi-Finals to take on the #2 Fairfield Lady Eagles for the Class 3A Girls Basketball State Championship. Well… we all know what happened. It took 33 years to bring the Championship trophy back to Brownfield as the Ladies beat Fairfield 68-64 in overtime.
The Lady Cubs return every starter from last seasons State Title Team which includes #3 Ashley Ramirez, #5 Lindsey Herrera, #11 Dabria Blackwell, #15 Gabi Fields, #33 Tia Johnson, and #34 Deja Johnson. With being #1 in the state and winning last season state title, the Lady Cubs will have everyone coming at them.
