Memorial Services for Richard Frank Cordell, will be 2:00 pm, Friday, November 30, 2018, in Ratliff Memorial Chapel in Seagraves, Texas. Officiating will be the Reverend Dan Reynolds, Chaplin Seagraves Police Department and Pastor of the First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seagraves

Richard passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018, at his residence in Seagraves after a lengthy illness. He was born October 20, 1945, to the late Carl and Lois Denbow Cordell in Eastport, Washington County, Maine. He moved to the plains in 1958, graduating from Lubbock High School in 1964 and in 1968 earned a Foreign Language Degree from Texas Tech. He then joined the U.S. Army serving as a  captain in intelligence during the Vietnam Conflict. After Vietnam, he served with the Texas Department of Public Safty (DPS) and then went on to serve as Chief of Police for Hale Center, Abernathy, Memphis, and Seagraves, retiring from Seagraves in 2003. He had a total of thirty-one years of service as a Texas Peace Officer. And he was a Baptist.

He is survived by his son, Carl Cordell of Seagraves, his daughter, Rachelle Ward of Vail, Arizona, a sister, Catherine Jones, a nephew, John Jones, a niece, Tracy Landeros, two great-nephews James Jones and Christopher Landeros and two great-nieces, Caitlyn Jones and Ashley Landeros, all of Lubbock.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Lubbock Ronald McDonald House.
