May 13, 1956 – March 4, 2021

Richard “Ricky” Wright passed away on Thursday, March 4th after a long battle with cancer. Ricky was born on May 13, 1956 to Bo and Wilma Wright in Lubbock, Texas. He grew up a Meadow Bronco and was a prolific athlete, qualifying for state in both tennis and pole vault, while also acting in the One Act Play. He married his wife Vicki on May 31st, 1980 and enjoyed over 41 years of marriage with her. Together they raised two beautiful girls. Ricky worked in construction for over 30 years.

Ricky was a godly man who was rarely seen without a big smile on his face. He always had a kind word for everyone and could always be counted on to give you a hard time and/or a nickname. He was one of a kind and really fun to be around. He loved to spend time with his grand kids, play golf, fish, and watch his beloved Boston Celtics. One of the highlights of Ricky’s life was getting to coach his daughters, and several of their friends, in basketball. He also loved volunteering at Mustard Seed Ministries in Shallowater and cooking at the church with all of his buddies. He was a very generous, loving, and gracious man who will be dearly missed.

Ricky is preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Lawrence “Shorty” Roberts, sisters-in-law, Jeani Roberts and Lu Wright, and a brother-in-law, Barry Green.

Ricky is survived by his wife Vicki, daughters Katie Noble and husband Lee, Kassie McNelly and husband Josh, a brother, Billy Wright, sisters Jonnie Green and Nancy Tekell and husband Cary, his mother-in-law Betty Roberts and brother-in-law Greg Roberts, and grandchildren Piper and Perri Noble and Lawson and Landon McNelly, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ricky’s services will be held on April 8th at 11:00 at The Message Church in Lubbock, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to Mustard Seed Ministries P.O. Box 1555 Shallowater, TX 79363 or any cancer-related organization.
