With the number of days until Christmas being under 10, anticipation was high during the Plains Yoakum County Storytime, which was held on Wednesday.

While caregivers arrived and placed sweets on the party table, the youngsters quickly sang the “Days of the Week” song. Following the pledges, the children chose a jingle bells rattle stick and also a foam, red nose to add some festivity to the songs “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells.”

Soon after, a jolly friend of the group (Santa Claus) appeared to hand out candy canes and also to take pictures with the children. Most were smiling, but a few had some hesitation.

Those in attendance were Nathan McAdams, Johan Neudorf, Jordy Bell, Case and Ella Bearden, Ethan Moya, and Penny Landry. The group sang to Santa with “Rudolph” before he had to return to his workshop located at the North Pole.

The youngsters gathered for a reading of “Snowmen at Christmas” as well as selections from Mary Engelbreit’s “A Merry Little Christmas: Celebrate from A to Z.”

The last December door prize, “Curious George: Stories to Share,” was awarded to Ethan Moya. The group then enjoyed a portion of “WonderPets Save the Reindeer.”

As the smiling children left, they each received a book as a Christmas gift—“Clifford, the Big Red Dog: Deck the Halls”—along with three coloring sheets.

Children of all ages are encouraged to attend Storytime with their caregivers. The group meets every Wednesday at 10:00 am during the school year.

Due to school vacation, the next Storytime will be on Jan. 6, 2016.

Merry Christmas Plains Yoakum County.
