Denver City high school art teacher Leann Romines recently released results for the Scholastic Art & Writing Regional Competition.

She related that this is a big art competition that includes all of the high schools in the Denver City region.

“Our art students were competing with all of the big schools in our area that have students who, in many cases, have had art classes since elementary school,” Romines said. “It is a juried show, which means that only a certain number of pieces, from among literally hundreds that were submitted, are selected to be in the show.”

DCHS students did very well this year and were awarded as follows:

Gold Key (highest level, automatically considered for the national level competition) was

Ailyn Carmona, Jacey Dyck, Trenton Freeman, Sean Romines, and Mirella Yanez (2 pieces).

In the Silver Key included Erica Baker, Logan Burns, Chris Espejo, Daniel Emilio Franco, Aylene Granados, Jesmani Herrera, Esmeralda Leon, and Victoria Sotelo.

Honorable Mention honors went to Angel Castillo, Jackie Escalante, Eliana Flores, Trenton Freeman, Ricky Lopez, Brianda Saenz, Michele Sotelo, and Adriana Villa.

“Again, it is an honor to have a piece of artwork awarded at ANY level in this show, so if you see these kids, give them a pat on the back,” Romines continued. “I am very proud of the job these students did.”
