The DCISD Board of Trustees held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, January 21st.

During the public discussion portion of the meeting, students from Bill Gravitt Junior High were introduced by Coach Yolanda Luster where they thanked board members for everything they do. The students had researched what the role of a school board member is and then wrote each member a letter. They also presented them with a large card of thanks.  Administrators from different campuses and the administration office were also in attendance to express their appreciation.

The first item on the agenda was a presentation by Terry and King CPA’s on the 2018-2019 Financial Audit that they have been conducting. They said that overall DCISD is doing a great job. The board was given a copy of the report and the firm went over the highlights. They also expressed their appreciation to LaChrisa Rains and the staff at the administration building for always being so organized and helpful.

The next item on the agenda was master plan and construction updates. Mr. Craig Wallace was in attendance for this report. Mr. Wallace advised the board that the majority of punch list items at the new high school have been completed, and they will continue to address any last minute issues as the arise. He stated that there had been some return air issues, but those issues had been taken care of. There are a few floor tiles that were broken during some repairs and those will be fixed during spring break while there is not any foot traffic to work around.

They are waiting on the arrival of some lettering to go on the outside of the building. Wallace said these letters should be here in about 4-6 weeks. All of the work is expected to be complete by the end of March with a final presentation to the public in April.

The board voted unanimously to continue contributing to the Yoakum County Livestock show participants. The total contribution amount is $100 per student. Cody Williams abstained from this vote since he had a child that was involved in the show.

DCISD School Trustee Election will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020. The window to pick up packets and file to run is already open and will close on Friday, February 14, 2020.  Incumbents Jess Roberts, Cody Williams, and David Mitchell are all up for re-election. As of  the time of the meeting, no one had filed to run.

Personnel items included a resignation from Mary Louis at the high school, a reassignment of April Tapaha to the Dodson office, and new hires welcomed to the district included Jay Spears in technology, Jeremy Smith in maintenance, Taw McLeroy at the high school, and Maribel Caro at Mustang Cafeteria.
