The Seagraves Police Department may be looking at some new equipment in the near future, after receiving news about being accepted into the 1033 Military Surplus Program.

While working as the police chief in Arp, Texas, current Seagraves Police Chief Scott McAuley, said he became familiar with the program, and knew it would be beneficial after the recent grapple with Goliath.

“After some weather related incidents, I recognized a need to get at least one military surplus vehicle, so that we could be able to get around in the snow or ice or whatever comes our way,” said McAuley.

He said he isn’t sure when Seagraves will be able to take possession of any surplus military equipment, but the first step has been taken. He said there is a little bit more paperwork to do before the process is complete.

Looking ahead, McAuley said his department will be applying for another round of Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds to help get even more equipment for his department. McAuley said last year his department received $69,000 in grant funds, which was used to purchase radars and computers for current patrol cars. Officers also received bulletproof vests as part of the funding.
