The Seagraves Eagles finished up with a strong fourth quarter last Friday night, sending the Sundown Roughnecks home with a 57-43 loss.
Senior guard Uriel Martinez led his team with 21 points. Fellow senior guard Skylar Clark had 15.
Martinez said the win “was actually meaningful because usually we’re doubters. It’s a beautiful feeling because we progress and even though we’re seen as the underdog in our district, we continue to get better.”
About his 21 points, Martinez said success comes at a price.
“I usually stay late in the gym when Coach (Eugene Brown) lets us, and I spend a lot of time practicing with my brothers,”said Martinez.
Currently, the Eagles are fifth in district with a 2-4 record.
The Eagles travel to Smyer 8 p.m. Tuesday to face them for the second time in district play. When the Eagles played Smyer in early January, they lost 77-39.
