The Brownfield Cubs Baseball season recently came to an end at the hands of Shallowater in the area round of the playoffs. The Cubs fell in two games to the Mustangs, ending their season. With the loss of Denver City, also in the area round, this paved the way for the release of post season honors for the district.
The Cubs ended their season with a 10 -13 overall record, and a 4-2 record in district, going into the playoffs as the second place team.
Earning post season honors were:
All District Designated Hitter – Adriano Mireles. Adriano is a Junior and led the team in hits (doubles, triples, singles and home runs) He was the most productive hitter on the team.
All District 1st Team 1st Baseman – Johnathan Romero. “Johnny Glove” could pick up anything in his general direction. His extension and willingness to leave it all on the field led to this honor. Johnny is a junior.
All District 1st Team 2nd Baseman – Zarius Garcia. Z is one of those kids that is just a natural. He works hard on every play and intends to win.
All District 1st Team Outfield – Andrew Valenzuela. This freshman, known as “Drew,” can play all over the field. He is very competitive and has a knack for knowing where the ball is going.
All District 2nd Team Shortstop – JJ Martinez. JJ is a freshman also, but plays like a senior. He has a maturity on the field that disguises his age. He was a solid playmaker for the Cubs.
The Cubs are coached by Eric Morin. Morin is assisted by Dallin Wood and Kyle Carroll.
