On Tuesday, October 5, at about 4:15 p.m. The Terry County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a man who was in pursuit of a pickup with two males. The caller stated he had caught the two men stealing from a barn he owned. They took off in a brown pickup. The caller began pursuit of the vehicle, calling the Sheriff’s Department while in pursuit.
Terry County Sheriff Timothy Click and three deputies responded to the call, which was from an area in the eastern part of the County. They began pursuit on Hwy 168 just south of Hwy 380.
The pickup went off the road and the passenger jumped from the vehicle and began to run. Officers pursued the suspect on foot. The driver was detained at the scene. The suspect on the run was chased for about one mile, according to reports, before he finally gave himself up.
Brothers Robert Vera, and Anthony Vera were arrested and charged with burglary of a building. The suspects remain in custody on $5,000 bond each.
People living in the rural areas are advised to pay attention to their barns and equipment, going by to check on them often. In this situation, the suspects were seen by the owner. This does not often happen. Sheriff Click advises people to just monitor their surroundings and their equipment and property for changes regularly.
Click and his deputies are monitoring the county daily.
