Stock Show Barn break in results in loss of one animal

by admin

The Terry County Show Barn was broken into some time after 9:45 p.m. on Friday night. As a result of this break in, one animal was found shot to death in the cemetery nearby.

Terry County Sheriff Timothy Click confirms that four juveniles, 16 and under, have been taken into custody, and charged with cruelty to animals and felony theft. They have been turned over to the Juvenile Probation Office. Since they are juveniles, no names will be released.

According to Brownfield Ag Teacher Sheldon Franks, a parent entered the Show Barn around 9:45 p.m. to check on their animals and feed. Nothing was amiss at that time. About 10 minutes or so later, another parent came in and discovered doors wide open, and pigs roaming around. This parent did see four juveniles in the show area. He chased them down, but they were able to jump into a vehicle and get away before he could get a license plate. There were identifying marks on the vehicle, however.

The Sheriff’s Department was called, as were other parents. All pigs were returned, apparently unharmed, to their pens.

Later, it was noticed that a lamb was missing.

This lamb was then found at the cemetery. It did show signs of physical abuse, and torture, and was shot to death.

We do thank the Terry County Sheriff’s Department for their quick action and apprehension of these juveniles.
