This weekend, Friday April 23 and Saturday April 24, 2021, there will be a few of the Terry County track athletes heading to Regionals.
From Brownfield heading to the Region I-3A Track Meet in Abilene is Meriah Gonzalez in the triple jump. Her regional qualifying jump was 33 feet and 10 inches. Next is Nathaniel Luna running the 100m dash where he became the Area Champion with time of 11.02 seconds. Nathaniel also qualified for regional in the 200m dash in a time of 22.8, which was second overall. Also fellow Cub Zavier (Zavy) Garcia finished 3rd in the 200m dash and has qualified for the regional track meet. Next BHS is Ruth Lazano where she ran the 400m dash and earned the Area Championship and qualified for regionals. Her time in the 400m dash 62.45 seconds. The final person qualifying for regionals from BHS is Isidora Garcia. She will compete in the 1600m (Mile) run.
The two smaller schools will have some representation in the Region I-1A Track Meet held at South Plains College in Loveland.
From Meadow High School, Niko Castaneda advanced to the Region I-1A Track Meet in discus. Castaneda was the Area Champion in discus! Casteneda will also compete in the shot put. Fellow Bronco Bryton Lambright also qualified for Regionals in the discus. The MHS Boys Sprint Relay with Wes Woodard, Bryton Lambright, Brady Parker, & Avery Magana advance to the regional track meet.
From Wellman-Union High School, Madyson Horton advanced to regionals in the 3200m run (2-mile). Madison White advanced in the shot put and fellow Lady Cat Kenzie Harp advanced in the 100m dash, in which she earned the Area Runner-up. Also from WUHS there are two Lady Cat relay teams advancing. Girls Sprint Relay with Haylee Boshears, Sadie Crowley, Kaley Cavazos , Kenzie Harp advances to the Region I-1A Track meet and the Lady Cat Mile Relay Team with Swayzee Harlan, Kaley Cavazos, Kenzie Harp, & Sadie Crowley are moving on to the Region I-1A Track Meet.
