The Terry County Commissioners Court met on Monday, January 13th with a long agenda ahead of them. Much of the agenda dealt with beginning of the new year items that have to be dealt with each year.
Salaries were set for elected officials and employees of Terry County. County Auditor Jan Hudson stated that a 3% raise across the board for full time salaried employees was in the budget. The Commissioners did approve this item.
The First of the Year Orders were read and approved. These orders include budgeted items and routine items that are ordered at the first of the year, so that they do not have to be brought before the Commissioners Court each month. No major changes were made in the orders from the previous year.
Board Members were approved for the Terry County Juvenile Board, Child Welfare Board, Senior Center, Historical Commission, Truancy Board, Kendrick Memorial Library Board, South Plains Health District, Ambulance Board, Appeal Committee and Grievance Committee. Few changes were made in these boards.
County observed holidays for 2020 were approved. The next holiday observed by County Offices and Employees will be Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 20th. As July 4th falls on a Saturday, the County will be closed on Friday, July 3rd for this holiday. With Christmas on a Friday this year, the County will be closing on Thursday, December 24th and Friday, December 25th.
The Court did approve an agreement between the Terry County Sheriff’s Office and Ward County (Monahans) for the housing of overflow prisoners. Terry County receives $55 a day per prisoner for housing these inmates. The County also has that same agreement with Hockley and Dawson Counties, as well as an agreement for housing Federal Inmates.
Also approved was the blocking of all Social Media on the Terry County Internet System. There were two exceptions made for computers used for criminal investigation purposes.
The Court will next meet on Monday, January 27th, at 10:30 a.m. in the basement meeting room of the Terry County Courthouse.
