Cubs and Lady Cubs meet up with old foe
The Lady Cubs improve again in district play as they are now 5-0 after claiming another huge victory, this time over Littlefield 73-38. Tonight’s (Tuesday Jan. 12, 2021) matchup includes an old foe.
The Lamesa Lady Tors will host the Lady Cubs for the final game of first round district action. The Tors are 2-3 in district and hope to upset the #7 Lady Cubs in order to keep playoff hopes alive. However with Brownfield placing an average of 76 points a game on the scoreboard during district so far and Lamesa has yet to get 60 points in one game, the Lady Cubs will run away with this win tonight.
On the boys side, the Cubs took their first district loss Friday night to Littlefield 45-37. The Cubs trailed at the end of each period all night between five to eight points. The Cubs are now 3-1 in district and is up at the top with Dimmitt.
Like the Lady Cubs, the Cubs will also travel over to Lamesa to take on their old foe. Lamesa is 1-2 in district, but has a similar overall record 8-5 to the Cubs 9-6. The loss for Brownfield on Friday night may have sparked some renewed energy in the them and they hope it’ll turn into another win. Look for the Cubs to win in another tight game.
Cross County Rivals Meet Up
Tonight is the battle of cross county rivals part one when Wellman-Union boy and girls basketball teams travel down US 62 to Meadow.
The Lady Broncos are now 2-0 in district after their first win against Dawson and a forfeit from Loop last Friday. The Lady Cats are now 1-1 after their first win against Loop and a loss to #14 Whiteface.
These two teams know each other, and both are not just playing for district position, but also for bragging rights for the next couple of weeks. Last season the Lady Cats fell to Meadow in both district games and they are looking for some payback this season especially since Zoey Hunt and others are now gone. This game will be a close one.
When talking about the Meadow and Wellman-Union boys basketball teams, we really could be seeing how one of these squads could possibly win district and tonight it will begin. District will begin for the boys teams District 7-1A tonight and this will be a great game to watch.
Unlike the Meadow Lady Broncos, the boys team missed out on a playoff birth last season and they had two losses in district to the WU Wildcats. Meadow will be hungry for a win against their county rival and hopes to be 1-0 after the last buzzer goes off tonight. This game will come down to the end and it might go into overtime.
