Three Mustangs to Play in ASCO All Star Game

Athletic Director Steve Taylor has announced three Mustang football players will be participating in the annual ASCO All Star game that will be held on June 11 at PlainsCapital Park-Lowrey Field in Lubbock.

Making the team this year was quarterback Cole McLeroy, linebacker Eduardo Hernandez and offensive lineman Israel Vasquez.

During his senior year Cole rushed for 1,770 yards on 180 carries a staggering 9.8 yards per carry. He also had 15 touchdowns. On defense Cole had 75 tackles and 5 interceptions while being injured and missing several games.

On offense Eduardo rushed for 680 yards on 120 carries and had 6 touchdowns. Defensively he had 102 tackles and four sacks.

Israel was a two-time starter for the Mustangs, was named to the All District team two years, and was a member of the Lubbock Avalanche Journal Super Team for two years.

This is the 12th year for the annual football game with players being drawn from the Amarillo, Lubbock, and Midland-Odessa areas.

The game benefits Joe Beene, a former Odessa Permian football player who was paralyzed during a football practice, and Tanner Cook, a former Idalou player who suffered a football-related head injury that led to three strokes, partial paralysis and memory loss.

The football players were scheduled to arrive in Lubbock and check into their hotels just after lunch on Wednesday, June 8 and then start a schedule that includes five practices in three days.

Last year Saul Gutierrez and Daniel Garcia participated in the game.
