The Brownfield Cubs and Lady Cubs did not fare well in last Friday’s match-ups with Shallowater. The Lady Cubs just could not hang with the #7 Fillies and was taken down 61-24 bringing the Lady Cubs to a 3-2 district record. The #12 Cubs, however, stood strong against a stingy Mustang team and at halftime led 30-24. It was the second half when #10 Shallowater came alive and got hot.
Tonights match-ups are between Brownfield and Abernathy. Brownfield will travel north today to take on the Antelopes and Lady Lopes. This will be a very pivotal game for the Lady Cubs because both squads are 3-2 in district and whoever wins will be in the driver seat for the fourth place seeding in the playoffs. The Lady Cubs will have to step up tonight if they want any chance of getting into the postseason. With a loss of a key player, then the few veterans will need to get their game faces on and try to win. Look for the Lady Lopes to slip on by tonight.
The Cubs really had a good game last week against Shallowater, the only thing that probably needs to change is the follow through. Tonight expect the 3-0 Antelopes to get scrappy and try to get Zach Munoz and company into foul trouble. The saying, “if you can’t beat them, then join them” comes to mind about the Antelopes. Abernathy is coming off some its biggest wins of the season including a 3-1 Caprock Tournament record and a huge win over the Class 1A #8 New Home Leopards. The Lopes will come out on fire and want to keep their undefeated district record in check. However, the Cubs will be too powerful on the outside.
Denver City Mustangs and Fillies split the wins and losses last Friday against Idalou. The Mustangs took care of business and won a district game 69-58 and the Fillies dropped a close one against the #3 Lady Cats 38-31. Tonight they travel to Slaton.
When the Mustangs get off the bus this evening in Slaton, their hope is to keep their two-game winning streak alive and win three in a row. However, the Slaton Tigers have home court advantage are just as hungry for a win as the Mustangs because they sit in
The Fillies have two things against them this season and they are Idalou and Shallowater.
The Greenwood Rangerettes will begin their district run this evening going up against Sweetwater. The Rangerettes have not done as well as they did last season when they made it all the way to the Region I Quarterfinals before being ousted by the State Semi-finalist Denver City Fillies. The Rangerettes are picked to win district again this season, however, they might want to jumpstart their game tonight.
Seagraves Lady Eagles did not really surprise anyone last Friday with a good win over Tahoka 40-24. Tonight will be a true test when they travel over to Sundown. These are supposed to be the top two teams in
The Tahoka Lady Dogs has struggled all season and tonight won’t get any easier when they take on Smyer at home. Smyer took on an impressive Plains squad last Friday and won 33-32 and most likely will not back away tonight either. Watch Smyer become 2-0 tonight as they will sail thru Tahoka
Meadow Lady Broncos are certainly in a rebuilding stage and after the 50-25 loss to Wellman-Union last Friday night, it really showed and now they are 2-13 on the season and 0-1 in district. The problem is that tonight they will stay home again and invite the #2 Ropes Lady Eagles into their house. The Lady Eagles begin their district run tonight and will most likely run away with a win. Even though one of
The Ropes Eagles will also begin district tonight at Meadow also. As most know on the South Plains that Meadow and Ropes has a storied past that makes most rivalries look like baby food. Anyway, here they are one more time to take on each other and tonight you will see the first and second place teams once
Wellman-Union Lady Cats are looking to go 2-0 in district tonight against a 1-0 O’Donnell team. The Lady Cats gave Meadow a 25 point loss last week and O’Donnell gave Loop and 26 point loss and both teams are able to 50 or more points. The biggest difference in this match-up is the experience. With WU’s first five, four which are seniors, and one junior and all of them back from last season, they are sure to take this game tonight. The Lady Cats should be in the driver seat by the time they come to a one-game break this Friday.
The Wellman-Union Wildcats will begin their trip through district tonight against O’Donnell. The Eagles have way more wins than the Wildcats and some of their losses were by just a few points. The Wildcats are going to need some help tonight from each other in order to win. Rebounding and passing the ball correctly will be the key to no turnovers and a possible win. The Wildcats look to sink tonight.
