The five teams who have already clinched a playoff birth are the Denver City Fillies, Seagraves Lady Eagles, Ropes Lady Eagles, Wellman-Union Lady Cats and the Tahoka Bulldogs
Although the Brownfield Lady Cubs will not be advancing to the playoffs, we still want to give them a shout-out for a good season. Last year the Lady Cubs did not win one district game and only won four games throughout the whole season. Tuesday night the Lady Cubs fell to the #8 Shallowater Fillies and came within nine points of them, but tonights focus is Abernathy. The last time they played was on January 8th and it was the second district game without one of their key players. The Lady Cubs were 3-1 in district going into the Christmas break and the Caprock Tourney. They suffered six straight losses when

Sometimes controversy can center around sports. Tuesday nights match-up between the #18 Brownfield Cubs and the #9 Shallowater Mustangs was one match-up that some feel was taken from the Cubs. With a 72-70 loss to

Well, its looking good for the #16 Denver City Fillies. They have placed themselves in the postseason and will most likely take on Canadian or Bushland in the first round, but that does not mean that they can slack. They still have two games left in
The Denver City Mustangs still have a chance to get in the playoffs, of course, their path is much easier than Littlefield’s. The Stangs have Slaton tonight then Littlefield, Roosevelt and then Brownfield. Whereas Littlefield has Shallowater, Denver City, Abernathy, and Roosevelt. If DC goes 3-1 in the next four and Littlefield goes 1-3 then they will be tied for the fourth place spot. The question really is, how bad do the Mustangs want it? It is very possible for them to win all four games a become a major thorn in the side of Brownfield. So, I digress, and now the last time both DC and Slaton took on each other the Tigers won 49-36 at Slaton. This time the game is at the DAG and there might be a little bit of revenge from the Stangs. Just remember last season when most folks felt that Brownfield did not stand a chance at getting a postseason birth and they did with a very similar scenario as DC.
The Plains Cowgirls are looking ok in

The Cowboys of Plains will also take on the top team in District 5-2A tonight. Sundown thus far is undefeated in district play and will look to stay that way, but, the Cowboys will try to make an upset run at it tonight. Of course, their last meeting Plains took a 23 point loss at Sundown, so there will be needed improvements for the Cowboys in order to upset the Roughnecks. Coach Welch should have them back to winning tonight.
The Seagraves Lady Eagles have become a dark horse in 2A-Region I. Although they lost the second time to Sundown they are still tied for first in
The Eagles of Seagraves are kindof in the same boat as Plains. A win tonight will help toward their playoff chances. Seagraves is 1-3 in district and Smyer is 0-5. Seagraves won last time 55-44, but Smyer desperately needs and wants a win. This will not be easy over in bobcat country.

Being #2 in
Oh if you could take a game back and replace it with a “W” then the Ropes Eagles would do that when they lost at O’Donnell 40-31 on the 15th of January. Tonight’s game between these two teams will most likely determine the District Champ, and the way O’Donnell has been playing basketball as of late, they just might become the District Champs. Anyway, whoever wins clinches a playoff birth no matter what. The game is at Ropes and is one of the hardest places to play, so with that thought, Ropes will take it tonight.

The Wellman-Union Lady Cats have already punched their ticket into the postseason line-up, especially after their big win over O’Donnell last Friday night when Sr. Michaela Horton busted a 3-pointer to take the lead 46-43 with four seconds left in the game. Now if the Ropes Lady Eagles beat O’Donnell tonight and the Lady Cats beat Loop tonight and a loss to Ropes on Tuesday then WU and O’Donnell will play a seeding game on Saturday, Feb. 9th at 7:00 PM, place to be determined. The Lady Cats just need to focus on a Loop team that likes to be scrappy and WU needs to come out with a win with no injuries.
The Wildcats of Wellman-Union has seen their fair share of disappointments this season. Tonight they will continue their quest for a playoff birth and the last time both these teams played the Wildcats got off to a slow start but won handily 55-22. Tonight should be no different and will most likely make the second game between the Meadow Broncos and the Wildcats determine who gets the third and final seed to the playoffs.
