Tuesday night basketball games for TownTalk Sports teams went about half and half. Brownfield went to Abernathy and the Cubs won, however, the Lady Cubs fell . Denver City traveled over to Slaton with a Fillies win and Mustang loss. Ropes boys and girls swept Meadow and so did O’Donnell against Wellman-Union. The Tahoka girls had a slight upset against Smyer and the Seagraves Lady Eagle came back home with a one-point win over Sundown. Let’s take look at what is to come tonight.

The Brownfield Lady Cubs was seeing some success in the early and pre-district season. But that has tapered off because of one key player has an injury. The Lady Cubs were sure to fight for that fourth place playoff spot and a post season birth, but after a loss to Abernathy Tuesday night they are now 3-3 in district and will take the #3 Idalou Lady Cats tonight in the final game of the first loop in district. Like I said on Tuesday, the veterans will need to step up their game if they are going to win anymore this season. Brownfield is not out of contention yet, even with a loss tonight.

The #13 Cubs have seemed to bounce back from that 15 point loss to #10 Shallowater by beating Abernathy 65-52. Abernathy came into the game 3-0 and looked to be the dark horse of the district, however, Zach Muniz, Nunie Ramirez, and Malachi Garcia helped shut down the Lopes. Tonight they will take on the Idalou Wildcats. This team shares the fourth place spot with Littlefield and they really want to be like the Lady Cats. The best thing for the Cubs to do is not underestimate this Wildcats team. Brownfield will be 4-1 by the end of the night.

Perhaps the #19 Denver City Fillies can make a trip back to the State Tournament. All they got to do is win, I know, easier said than done since they have dropped two very close games to #3 Idalou and #7 Shallowater. Perhaps the Fillies are on an upswing with momentum and their peak won’t begin until their first playoff game. They took on a decent Salton team Tuesday evening and won 64-53 so we will see. Now as for tonight, they take on Littlefield at home for their final game of round one in district play. The Fillies sit at 4-2 in district and will stretch that to 5-2 by the last buzzard tonight. Watch Holly Hemmeline and company win big.

The Mustangs of Denver City has seen their fair share of disappointments this season and another one happened again with a 49-36 loss to Slaton on Tuesday night. Tonight they will matchup with Littlefield and see what they come up with. The Wildcats come in 2-2 in district while DC is 1-3. Although they are sitting in 6th place in district, there is plenty of time to start knocking off opponents and this game could be the beginning of that start. The Mustangs are hungry for another win, they will be 2-3 after tonight.

Greenwood finally began district play for the girls on Tuesday night and is now 1-0 in district with a close win over Sweetwater 54-51. Tonight they travel over to San Angelo and play Lake View who is 2-16 on the season. The Rangerettes are looking to win another District Title and Lake View is not going to get in their way. Greenwood will be 2-0 in district.

The Greenwood Ranger will have their district opener tonight against Lake View and it should be an easy go for them. The Rangers have come out playing hard since their football season ended abruptly. Greenwood cannot play down to their opponents or they will be scorched, but tonight they should do fine. It’s the next game against Snyder that will be an issue. Just take one game at a time.

The Plains Cowgirls have a bit of work to do tonight. With what some thought that the Tahoka Lady Dogs weren’t going to be a factor in District 5-2A, well they thought wrong after a win over Smyer 31-24. Plains didn’t play a district game Tuesday night and dropped their opening district game last Friday to Smyer 34-33 on the road. This should be an interesting game tonight. The Lady Dogs are riding high right now and the Cowgirls want their first district win. The Cowgirls will rope the Lady Dogs and send them back to Lynn County with a loss.

Both Plains Cowboys and Tahoka Bulldogs begin their district run tonight against each other. This will surely be a good game tonight, probably one of the best as far as competition and rivalry. Both teams have played the stellar #8 (1A) New Home Leopards and gave them a good run, with a total of combined 13 point loss. Needless to say, the teams have beaten and lost to so far this season, they have done well. I am going to give the edge to Tahoka tonight.

Meadow Lady Broncos will travel over to O’Donnell tonight where they will try to win. O’Donnell just came off a two-point win over Wellman-Union Tuesday night and the Lady Cat beat Meadow 50-25 last Friday. Meadow took a hard hit Tuesday night against the #2 Ropes lady Eagles losing 72-17. Yes, that is correct. Zoey Hunt of Meadow has tried her best to make things happen, and tonight her team needs to help and step up in a big way. O’Donnell is just too much for the Lady Broncos.

The Meadow Broncos also took a lick from Ropes Tuesday night with a 56-37 loss. Meadow now gets to go over to O’Donnell and try to get back into the swing of things. However, watching O’Donnell play the other evening against Wellman-Union, Meadow will need to not have turnovers. O’Donnell is a very patient team and will score after passing the ball around and breaking down the defense. Meadow will come back home 0-2 in district.

Well it looks like the #2 Ropes Lady Eagles did not skip a beat after their loss to Shallowater in the Caprock Tourney Championship game. They got a win over #15 Patton Springs and began district crushing Meadow 72-17. Tonight they stay home and take on Loop. The Lady Longhorns might do a little better than Meadow, however they will be able to touch the Lady Eagles high powered team.

The Eagles of Ropes will get their second district game also tonight. The Eagles have a three-game  winning streak that looks to not end anytime soon. Loop will have to play the game of their life tonight in order to upset the Eagles.
