Two longtime faculty members retiring from BHS

Brownfield ISD and BHS said good bye to two long time faculty members this week, as the school doors closed for the summer.

School Nurse Rosa Reynero walked out the doors of BHS and BISD on Wednesday, and won’t be coming back next fall. Rosa has worked for BISD since 2004, first at Oak Grove and then at BHS. She started at BHS in 2011.

Rosa stated, “I will miss getting to see the students each day and encouraging them to continue their education. This is just the beginning for them. I want them to see that. Learning continues. This is just the end to one phase of learning.”

One thing that stands out for her is seeing kids that are having difficulties return to BISD through enrollment at BEC. “I am so grateful for BEC. That program gives student a chance at a diploma when regular school just wasn’t working out for them. It is such a great program and I love seeing my kids go back and get to finish up.”

Rosa also said, “I will never forget getting a hug from a tough young man. He said, ‘Thank you for keeping me alive.’ when he was struggling. That really touched my heart. I won’t forget it.”

She also mentioned seeing former students in the grocery store who thank her for what she has done.

Rosa stated that she will miss the teachers and staff. “I saw many of them in my office from time to time. I enjoyed being a part of keeping our staff healthy, because that is a way to help the kids.”

As far as her time in retirement, Rosa says she will be on the road back and forth to her mother’s to help care for her. She will also have more time for grandkids.

Rosa also stated, “I am so thankful for this school district and so grateful that I got to spend some time in this beautiful school building. It has just been so amazing to feel like I have an actual clinic. I am grateful for the support of the district throughout my career.”

Also retiring is Merry McCreight. Merry has been in BISD for 18 years. Merry has been a teacher and leader in the SPED program. She also started at Oak Grove and finished her career at BHS. She grew up in Missouri and went to college in St. Louis.

Outside of BISD, she has also worked at the State School in Lubbock, as well as actually having her own chiropractic office at one time. That was not truly her calling, so back to education she went.

As far as highlights to her career, Merry stated, “I just love the special needs kids. They are neat little guys.” It truly takes a special person to give their career to working with Special Needs.

She stated she really has a special bond with many of the children who have walked through her doors. And this is what she will miss the most. “The kids are so special. I will miss them so much. And I have made some really great friends here that I will miss seeing daily.”

Her time away from working each day will be spent sleeping, and sleeping! She is also expecting a grandbaby soon and she knows she will get to spend plenty of time helping with that baby. She also has plans to keep helping with the gate at basketball and volleyball games. Plus, she will sub occasionally when needed in the SPED program.

“I want to thank Mr. Smith and Dr. Cooper for all they have done. They are both just fantastic. They are doing such a great job of leading our school.”

Congratulations to both of these ladies on their retirement and thank you for your years of service to our kids!
