Walk Like MADD Brings Community Together to Remember Loved Ones, Inspire Change and Commit to End Drunk Driving

MADD West Texas hosts a signature fundraising event

Most adults know about Mothers Against Drunk Drivers or commonly referred to as MADD. According to MADD, this organization is more than a place to share food. It’s where children tell their parents about what happened at school that day. It’s a place where love and laughter are exchanged during holiday gatherings and family celebrations.

So after a tragedy, the table also serves as an all too painful reminder of those no longer seated around it. In 1980, it was a small, unassuming kitchen table where one mom started a movement that would significantly change the course of history in the United States.

In 1980, more people died on US roadways than the number of people who died in war thanks to drunk driving. Fast forward to today, the fatalities from drunk driving have been cut in half, even though there has been a number of barriers and complications along the way.

WHAT:Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) in Lubbock will host its Walk Like MADD® fundraiser. Victims, survivors, and supporters will line up for this non-competitive 5K walk to remember lost loved ones, inspire change, and commit to a nation with no more victims.

Funds raised through Walk Like MADD help further MADD’s lifesaving mission and the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving® which calls for high-visibility law enforcement, ignition interlocks or “in-car breathalyzers” for all convicted drunk drivers, and support for the development of advanced technology to turn cars into the cure for drunk driving.

Coming up soon, MADD will hold a fundraiser called “Walk Like MADD”. This event will take place in Lubbock, TX.
