Construction on the BHS campus is not all the work that is going on in the school district, as BISD prepares for another year.
Work continues at Colonial Heights as BISD Maintenance staff and contract laborers work hard to get the building ready for Bright Beginnings Academic Center in the Fall of 2021. (This is the Pre-K campus of BISD.) When excited little students roam the halls for their first time, it will be fresh, clean and safe for all.
BISD Superintendent Chris Smith stated, “We thought bringing our students into town and off the highway was a much safer way of operating, and a more convenient option for parents.”
The hallways are being painted, including the old, outdated tile. Rooms are being refreshed. Electrical is being upgraded. Windows are being replaced.
The Pre-K program will move from the building on the Seagraves Road to the CH building when school begins in 2021. Every area of the building is being renovated.
The current library will become a learning center for the students. The latest in technology will be available. The school will be in a much safer and more secure location, than the current location.
Smith stated, “Colonial Heights is an important part of the master plan in BISD, so we were thankful for the opportunity to renovate it. It will be a nice, clean, updated, and more efficient building that students and teachers will enjoy. We are excited about the work being done and can’t wait to show the community.”
Director of Maintenance and Transportation Brian Paiva stated, “We are doing much of the work ourselves where we can. We have hired some contract labor in certain areas. We are getting the building updated and will have everything ready by the time school starts in August.”
Smith told TownTalk Media, “We are also going to work on selling the Bright Beginnings building as Colonial Heights has plenty of room for future growth, when needed. We really don’t have a timeline for selling the building, but it will be soon after we have completed all the moves.”
