The Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, May 6, where they addressed their weekly agenda.

Moving into the agenda the Court moved to audit and settle all accounts against the County and direct their payments. After looking over the bills and addressing any concerns a motion was made and unanimously approved to pay County bills that totaled $222,878.54 and Medical facility bills that totaled $298,430.07. Also in the bill paying was the part-time payroll.

After all bills were paid the Court heard an update from Prissy Summers, Director of the Family Literacy Center. She was basically there to thank the Commissioners for their support of the center. She also presented each Commissioner and Judge Jim Barron with a small coffee mug filled with many treats. This is the 30th year for the center to be open. Currently it is serving the needs of approximately 111 adults and children from Denver City, Plains, Seagraves, and Hobbs. The center had graduation on Tuesday and will have a second graduation in September for those who have completed all of their course work.

Also in attendance was Bradley Palmer representing Windstream services. He addressed several issues including proposals to repair phone lines or a full phone system upgrade. One of the proposals noted a particular phone line would start receiving credit on that particular line should repairs take more than four hours to restore service. Other questions were also addressed and asked. When he was finished Judge Barron thanked him for taking time to come visit with the Commissioners concerning these issues.

In the next two items Judge Barron recognized and the Court unanimously approved donations to the summer reading program at the Plains Library from AimBank, Bill and Pam Rowe, Yoakum County Federal Credit Union, Lea County Electric, and Plains State Bank.

The Court also unanimously approve donations to the summer reading program at Cecil Bickley Library in Denver City from Scott Frankfather, M.D. and Warren New.

The Court also unanimously approved two road crossings in Precinct #3 and approved the disposal of several computer related items from the County Clerk’s office. There were no Line Item transfers and no Soil Conservation request.

Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron were all in attendance. The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 13 at 10 am in the County Courthouse.
