Yoakum Commissioners meet

Yoakum Commissioners meet

The Honorable Commissioners Court of Yoakum County Convened at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14 in the Commissioners Courtroom of the County Courthouse in Plains, Texas, notice of SPECIAL meeting having been duly posted as required by law.

Those in attendance included Commissioner Woody Lindsey, Commissioner Ray Marion, Commissioner Tommy Box, Commissioner Tim Addison, and County Judge Jim Barron.

Others in attendance included Special Assistant to the County Judge Toni Jones, Sheriff David Bryant, Chief Deputy Robert Whitfield, County Treasurer Darla Welch, Human Resource Director Crystal Gonzales, and Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish.

After looking over the bills a motion was made and unanimously approved to pay the bills. This included County bills that totaled $110,427.50 and Hospital bills that totaled $162,981.35.

Moving into the agenda the County Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish reported to the Court that $28,176.12 had been collected during the month of August. Her report was unanimously approved.

Next on the agenda County Treasurer Darla Welch reported that the county had a beginning balance of $59,696,774.16 and an ending balance of $58,560,476.76 for the month of August. Her report was also unanimously approved.

Judge Barron acknowledged receipts of all departments’ monthly reports for August 2020. This included Justice of the Peace #2, District Clerk, County Clerk, and the Sheriff’s office. His report was also unanimously approved.

County Treasurer Darla Welch approached the Court asking permission to approve the deputation of Esmeralda Pando as a full time/part time employee in the Treasurer’s office. Her request was unanimously approved.

Chief Deputy Robert Whitfield along with Sheriff David Bryant were next on the agenda asking permission to hire a jailer to fill a vacancy at the Sheriff’s office. Whitfield assured the Court it was not a new position, but only to fill a vacancy that had taken place in their office. The Court unanimously approved this request.

Moving to the next item the Court unanimously approved a request for a comp time pay out for Fermin Luna in Precinct #1. This request was submitted by Human Resource Director Crystal Gonzales.

A donation for the Cecil Bickley/Yoakum County Library in Denver City in memory of LaVerne Newsom was also approved.

There were no request for various road crossing permit application, no disposal of county equipment, no line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, September 21 in the Commissioners Courtroom located in the Courthouse starting at 10am.
