Following an hour-long Workshop session dominated by lengthy discussions of items in the Sheriff’s Department office personnel, the Yoakum County Commissioners Court met on Monday, January 28, where they addressed their weekly agenda.

Before the meeting was officially called to order directors from 24 Karat, which manages Shinnery Oaks Nursing home, gave an informal December 2018 financial report. These directors had been at the last meeting but didn’t have all the necessary information the Court needed which resulted in them attending on Monday. However, they had been left off the agenda meaning little or no discussion was held concerning their report.

The first item on the agenda was a public hearing on the speed limit change on County Road 390 to 50 MPH from State Highway 214 to County Road 325. Since no one was in attendance for the public hearing the Court moved on into the agenda.

In the first item, the Commissioners unanimously approved a motion to make no changes in advertising for the sale of county scrap metal and salvage material.

Moving on into the agenda the Court moved to audit and settle all accounts against the County and direct their payments. After looking over the bills and addressing any concerns a motion was made and unanimously approved to pay County bills that totaled $88,697.34 and Medical facility bills that totaled $188,725.16.

While discussing the County bills several Commissioners questioned a gas bill from the City of Denver City that totaled $5,594.25. They felt like there might this amount could be an error and wanted to visit with City Manager Stan David before approving this portion of the bills.

Denver City Hospital Executive Director Jerry Osborn was in attendance asking permission for the hospital to approve an agreement with Philips Healthcare Service Agreement and Yoakum County Hospital. The charge to the hospital will be $12,178 per month. It concerns an item used in the surgery room. The Court unanimously approved the request.
There was no action taken on the three items discussed during the workshop session that proceeded the regular meeting. Due to the length of discussing the sheriff office personnel the other two items were not discussed. This included renovations of the old sheriff office and the Plains Youth Center and also Bandwidth concerns. It is not known when these two items will be discussed.

In discussing reducing the speed limit change on County Road 390 the Commissioners unanimously approved reducing the speed limit to 50 MPH.

There were no road crossing permit applications, no request for disposal of county equipment, no line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.

Before the meeting adjourned Judge Barron read a letter from Prissy Summers, Director of the Family Literacy program, thanking the county for their continued financial and personal support for the center.

Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron were all in attendance. The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 4 at 10 am in the County Courthouse.
