Commissioners Court Meets September 6

The Commissioners Court met in regular session on Tuesday where they addressed their weekly agenda. The meeting had been moved to Tuesday because of Monday falling on Labor Day.

Addressing their first item on the agenda the Court unanimously approved the minutes from the months of January, February, March, April, and May, 2016. This item had been on last week’s agenda but had been tabled for this meeting.

The Court also unanimously approved the deputation of Emma Silvas in the County Clerk Office.

They also unanimously approved an annual maintenance agreement with Tascosa Office Machines for Canon IR ADV C5250 copy machine.

In their next item the Commissioners could not decide on the amount of a matching RAMP Grant for both the Plains and Denver City airports so this item was tabled until further information could be obtained. This item will be discussed at their next meeting.

Moving on Commissioner Woody Lindsey had some dollar amounts that he presented for the abatement project and demolition of the Denver City old elementary (Civic Center) building. Lindsey said the price he had received for the abatement would be $259,983 and the removal of it would be $63,250. He received two bids for the demolition, one for $177,450 and a second one for $180,000. Since this building is jointly owned by both the City of Denver City and Yoakum County the expenses will be shared.

Commissioner Lindsey informed the Court he would be visiting with City Manager Stan David and would addressed the Council at a future meeting to find out their feelings on the project. It is anticipated the demolition will take place within the year.

The Court also unanimously approved the recommended appointments of election judges and alternate judges for the upcoming November election.

There were no requests for the disposal of county equipment, no line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.

It was agreed that any further action on the Senior Citizen building would be removed from future agendas.

Commissioner Ray Marion said dirt work had started on the new Denver City Community Building, but recent rains had delayed the work.

The court also audited and settled all accounts against the County and direct their payments.

Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Ty Earl Powell, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron were present.

The next meeting will be on Monday, September 12 starting at 10 am.
