Yoakum County Commissioners hear various department reports, approve airport grants, during weekly meeting

Commissioners Court Meets September 12

The Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, September 12, where they addressed their weekly agenda.

County Treasurer Barbara Wright was present to give her monthly treasurer’s report, but requested this item be tabled until the next meeting.

However, Country Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish was in attendance and gave her monthly report. She reported her office had collected $20,027.05 during the month of August. The Court unanimously approved her report.

County Judge Jim Barron then gave monthly reports from the various county departments. This included the Sheriff’s office, Justice of Peace #1, County and District Clerk’s office, and the Landfill. The Commissioners once again unanimously approved these reports.

After tabling action on the RAMP Grant for both the Plains and Denver City airports last week the Commissioners unanimously approved both grants. The value of the grant for Denver City was for $10,000 and for Plains it was $30,000. Judge Barron explained should either airport need additional funds during the year they could approach the Court to request additional funds.

The Commissioners also unanimously approved to proceed with repairs to the Yoakum County swimming pool in Plains not to exceed $50,000. Judge Barron explained the top layer of plaster needs to be removed and replaced. The funds will come from contingency.

County Auditor Darinda D. McWhirter explained to the Court some details in approving CTSI (Computer Transition Services, Inc.) renewal of data backup and disaster recovery service agreement as well as the e-mail protection program. After Commissioner Tim Addison asked some questions concerning the renewal of the service the agreements were unanimously approved.

In the next item the Court unanimously approved a budget amendment of $9,675 to expend certified donation revenue for the Summer Reading Program.

An interlocal contract between Yoakum County and Lubbock County to provide forensic autopsy services through the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office for fiscal year 2017 was also unanimously approved. Judge Barron informed the Court this is an annual contract and there were no changes from last year.

And in their last regular item on the agenda the Commissioners unanimously approved setting all fees of sheriff and constables. Sheriff Don Corzine was in attendance and informed the Court there were no changes in these fees.

Precinct #2 Commissioner Ray Marion reported that the plumbing for the new Denver City Community building was almost finished and he was expecting the concrete slab to be poured in the near future.

The Court audited and settled all accounts against the county and directed their payments.

Commissioners Ray Marion, Ty Earl Powell, and Tim Addison were all in attendance along with Judge Jim Barron. Commissioner Woody Lindsey was serving on the Grand Jury and was not able to attend.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, September 19, in the County Courthouse starting at 10 am.
