The 2016 Summer Reading Program, “On Your Mark, Get Set…READ!” provides opportunities to all ages to enjoy reading. It begins on Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Yoakum County Library in Plains and will run through July 8th. This program is free.

The program will have an emphasis on wellness, including sports and nutrition. Weekly activities include crafts, movie matinees, game afternoons, and puzzles. There will also be coloring contests for two age groups, elementary and below & junior high and above. Anyone who signs up for the reading program will receive prizes. To complete the program, each person must read at least 10 books from the Yoakum County Library in Plains. The books must be on that person’s reading level. Each person who finishes the program will receive more prizes and have his or her name entered into drawings for bigger prizes. This year’s Summer Reading program includes a category for adults. Adults can enter a drawing for grand prizes by filling out a slip for each book they read.

Special programs this year include magician Harlin Rhoades; musician Andy Mason, Science Spectrum Animals and Science Spectrum Sports; Sandy Land UWCD; Game Warden Aaron Sims and more! We will also have several book clubs for elementary age children and Storytime for Kindergarteners and younger.

The summer reading program aims to help local people maintain and improve their reading skills—and to have fun! Please encourage all ages to join and complete this great program. Sign up begins on May 23rd at the Yoakum County Library in Plains. See you there!
