Yoakum County Library in Plains, Staying Healthy at StoryTime

by Eric

The Yoakum County Library in Plains hosted a StoryTime that focused on germs and staying well on Thursday, January 31, 2019. With a few kiddos out sick, the theme was applicable! Those in attendance were Tirzah, Brit, Benny, and Lena.

Following the calendar activities and the pledges, the first book “Germs Are Not for Sharing” by Elizabeth Verdick, explained how germs are spread and how to stay healthy. “All the Little Germs”, a felt board activity about germs on our hands, was next. After that, the book “Sick Simon” by Dan Krall, about a boy spreading his germs to everyone at school, was read to the group. “The Handwashing Song” was sung to emphasize the proper way to wash our hands.

“Bear Feels Sick” by Karma Wilson was read next, followed by Llama Llama Home with Mama by “Anna Dewdney.” Both books focused on how our friends and family care for us when we are sick. The books also helped the group discuss how we can keep our germs to ourselves so that our friends and family don’t get sick too! Finally, the Charlie and Lola video “I’m Really Ever so Not Well” concluded the Story Time. Each child received a bag that contained coloring sheets, health tips, and a fruit snack.

The next meeting will be Thursday, February 7 when the theme will be hibernation. The following Thursday, February 14 will be the group’s Valentine’s Day Party. It will be held at the Plains Museum at 10:30 am. A Valentine’s craft will be done, and refreshments will be served. Caregivers are asked to bring Valentines to exchange at the party. All Family StoryTimes at the Yoakum County Library in Plains are free for all ages of children and their caregivers.
