The 2016 Summer Reading program “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!” has ended at the Yoakum County Library in Plains. This year’s program was a tremendous success with over 7000 people participating in the various events that were offered.
Events presented this year included several book reading clubs, two coloring contests, and an ice cream party. Programs were presented by veterinarian Dr. Jim Ridenour, Michelle Cooper of Sandy Land UWCD, Science Spectrum, storyteller Eldrena Douma, Game Warden Aaron Sims, magician Harlin Rhoades, and musician Andy Mason.
Heinrich Neudorf and Noami Guerra won bicycles. Anna Harms, JoAnna McAdams, and Laura Mendias won Kindle Fires. In the Adult Summer Reading Program, Toni Jones and Jeannette Head won Kindle Fires. Various other prizes were won by others who had finished the program of reading 10 books on their reading levels.
