Martha Francell Palmer, 87, who was also known to many as “Mommie Mop”, passed away on March 28, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born December 10, 1936 to the late John E. Fitzgerald and Dillie O. Smith in Lubbock, Texas. Martha married the love of her life, Jack Palmer, on October 21, 1956 in Plains, Texas where she stayed to be a homemaker and a lifelong resident.

Martha worked at Bayless Jewelers in Brownfield, Newsom Gin, Moore and Oden Dry Goods and the Plains Record newspaper. She was a member of TSA MO GA Women’s Club, Fine Arts, Home Demonstration, Ladies Red Hat Society and the Hillside Church of Christ.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, John E. Fitzgerald and Dillie O. Smith; her husband, Jack Palmer; two brothers, Melvin Fitzgerald and Johnnie Fitzgerald; and one sister, Linda Huddleston. Martha is survived by two sons, Brad Palmer and wife Lisa from Plains, Texas and Brent Palmer from Lubbock, Texas; one sister, Winnell Loe from Edmond, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; Anne Kinne, Bradley Palmer II, Brianna Silva, Zach Palmer, Brooklynn Palmer and Isabella Palmer; and ten great-grandchildren.

The Family would like to extend their special thanks to Martha’s healthcare providers, Mary Morin, LaFonda Trantham, Sharae Madewell and Laurie Bandy. Visitation will begin at 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Ratliff Chapel of Plains in Plains, Texas on Monday, April 1, 2024. Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Plains, Texas with Brother Ray Young officiating followed by interment at Plains Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home in Brownfield, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Lubbock Children’s Home, the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home or a charity of ones choice.
